TrydaNi’s mission is to deliver zero emission car-sharing across Wales – in a way that is cheap, convenient and benefits local communities.

The world changes fast.

In 2010, 261 electric cars were sold in the UK. In 2023 it was 455,000. Fifteen years ago, no-one had heard of Elon Musk and Tesla. Now we can barely move without hearing about the latest drama.

Today there are around 100,000 driverless cars on the road in the US, and Uber says it's ready to deploy driverless taxis to the UK by 2027.

Alongside the astonishing pace of technological change that we are living through, we are also living through an age of hyper-capitalism. Combined, Tesla and Uber have raised over twenty-one billion dollars, promising investors a return many times that.

At TrydaNi we are excited about the promise of electric vehicles and the fact that integration with mobile apps means that everyone can share the benefits – our members can find, book and unlock cars, all via a smartphone.

But we are also concerned about the economic model being used to bring this technology into our lives. We want to show that there can be an alternative to the Elon Musks and Ubers of this world.

That's why TrydaNi is a non-profit Community Benefit Society. We're not a charity, so we have the ability to operate like a business, but all of our profits will go back into improving our service and making things better for local communities.

We're proud of our heritage. TrydaNi was born as a number of existing grassroots community projects joined forces. We realised we could be stronger together and have more impact by ensuring that successful car-sharing models are replicated across Wales.

And we're being really ambitious – ultimately we want all the vehicles to be powered by Welsh community-owned electricity, as the cost of clean energy (particularly solar) continues to plummet. The batteries in our vehicles offer exciting opportunities for local energy independence, providing an effective store for renewably-generated electricity that can be used when it's needed.

Unlike Elon Musk or Uber, we unfortunately do not have billions of dollars. But by coming together we have an opportunity to build something really exciting. We want to be led by you – our members – as we start building the future. So please strap in and join us on our mission today.
